Hopefully you haven't gone a month without a Seamoth, or haven't restarted the game, but this exact thing happened to me. I stopped about 15m above the seafloor and hopped out to scan, and promptly fell to the floor for some fall damage. Right-click on Subnautica in the Game Library in Steam and select Properties.
